A Statement From RABBIT HOLE Director, Meg Vatterott:
With a background in journalism, watching trust in international news media plummet and disinformation spread online left me feeling deeply concerned.
… But in the depths of Wikipedia’s talk pages, I found hope.
For the past year, I have been researching, meeting, filming and talking with Wikipedians around the world.
Through these encounters, I’ve gained immense respect for this community.
Their dedication showed me that humans can still collaborate for the common good. That we do not have to accept the terms and conditions of a post-truth, manipulated online world.
This film is my call to action:
Participate, Engage, and Fight for an internet - and a world - POWERED BY THE PEOPLE.
Where knowledge, truth, and humanity still matter.
Our humanity is all we have.
The films final argument is that we should not give it up.
RABBIT HOLE - A Documentary Feature Film:
Amid a confusing and divisive internet, a band of unlikely heroes maintain one of the last good places online: Wikipedia. Their mission – free access to knowledge – faces unrelenting challenges as misleading AI, disinformation and rising authoritarianism erode the concept of fact. As oppressive governments and bad actors use information as a weapon, regular people find power in this community-driven encyclopedia.
This film is currently in production and we are seeking support to complete the film.
